If you’ve ever wondered why some people seem to build wealth effortlessly while others struggle, Rich Dad Poor Dadoffers a fascinating answer. Robert Kiyosaki grew up with two strong father figures – his biological father (his “Poor Dad”), who followed the conventional path of working hard, saving money, and relying on job security, and his best friend’s father (his “Rich Dad”), who taught him the secrets of financial independence and building wealth.

Throughout the book, Kiyosaki challenges traditional beliefs about money, explaining why the rich think differently and how adopting their mindset can help you achieve financial freedom. He challenges traditional beliefs about job security, saving money, and higher education, arguing that true wealth comes from financial intelligence and making money work for you. Key lessons include:

  • The importance of financial education
  • Why assets make you rich, not your salary
  • The dangers of relying on a single income source
  • How to escape the “rat race” and build passive income

Whether you’re just starting your financial journey or looking to improve your money mindset, this book is an eye-opener.

Rich Dad Poor Dad – Our Verdict!

Why I love it…

Hi, it’s Naomi here! What I loved about this book is how easy it is to read – it’s full of stories and insights that make you think differently about money. Kiyosaki’s comparison between his two “Dads” is so relatable, and it really highlights how much our mindset shapes our financial future, and how we’ve become conditioned to have specific beliefs around money. These beliefs though do not serve us, as Kiyosaki will share in this book.

This book doesn’t just tell you what to do – it actually helps you understand why we think of and handle money the way we do, and how to change those habits for the better.

Why you should buy it…

This book is perfect for anyone looking to improve their financial literacy and rethink their relationship with money. Whether you’re trying to escape the negative feelings around money or the paycheck-to-paycheck cycle, whether you want to start investing, or simply gain a new perspective on wealth, Rich Dad Poor Dad gives you the foundation to get started. It’s not a new book but it is such a good starting point when you want to get your finances in check and start building wealth.

My top tip…

Go into this book with an open mind! Some of Kiyosaki’s ideas may challenge what you’ve always been taught, but that’s the point. The sooner you start looking at money differently, the sooner you can take control of your financial future.

I recommend reading this book first, and then getting a copy of the timeless, easy-to-read book “The Science of Getting Rich” by Wallace D. Wattles. This is another older book but it heavily focused on creating a money mindset. Then go for a wealth manifestation book like “Rich As F*ck” by Amanda Frances.
